General information about our offered courses


The Foreign Language Center (SPZ) at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena offers the following courses for German as a Foreign Language:

  • German language courses
    throughout the semester, for the language levels A 1 to C 2 corresponding to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); courses are open to everybody interested in learning German
  • Intensive German courses
    during the non-teaching period or teaching period (3 to 4 weeks) for selected language levels; courses are open to everybody interested in attending

Which kind of German courses are offered?

Main Courses

= language courses at an intermediate level (60hrs/semester)
(All skills - hearing, reading, speaking, writing; vocabulary, grammar)

  • 4 hrs/week (2x 90 min/week)
  • 5 ECTS-points when a course has been successfully completed

Intensive Courses during semester break                        (in September)

= language courses at an intermediate level (60hrs/course)
(All skills - hearing, reading, speaking, writing; vocabulary, grammar)

  • 4 hrs/day (2x 90 min/day)
  • 5 ECTS-points when a course has been successfully completed



Intensive Courses during semester

= language courses at an intermediate level (60hrs/course)
(All skills - hearing, reading, speaking, writing; vocabulary, grammar)

  • 3 hrs/day (3x 45 min/day)
  • 5 ECTS-points when a course has been successfully completed

Complementary/ Advanced Courses

= language courses for specific skill training (30hrs/semester)
(e.g. phonetics or grammar). These can be taken in addition to the basic course or as stand-alone courses

  • 2 hrs/week (1x 90 min/week)
  • 3 ECTS-points when a course has been successfully completed

Specialized Courses

= language for particular fields of study (30hrs/semester)
(German for lawyers attorneys, German for medics; Business German)

  • 2 hrs/week (1x 90 min/week)
  • 3 ECTS-points when a course has been successfully completed

Who may participate in the courses?

These German courses offers are mainly intended for students enrolled at the FSU Jena, which means

  • Erasmus- and exchange students
  • Full-time students as well as
  • PhD-students.


Students
enrolled at another university, PhD Students visiting the FSU Jena, Employees of the FSU Jena and their families as well as guests are welcome to participate.
