Registration process for language courses in German as a Foreign Language


General Information

To participate in a German course, you must do the following:


Step 1: Online Registration

Step 2: Written Placement Test

Step 3: Personal Enrolment and Confirmation/Admission to Course(s)

Step 4: Transfer of Course Fee


This registration process applies to all students, international colleagues and guests who want to participate in a German course offered by the Language Centre. You DO NOT need to be enrolled at the university, the computer center, or in the electronic course catalogue Friedolin. Therefore, this online registration is open to everyone who may be interested.


Please note:
Registration for our courses of German as a Foreign Language is NOT POSSIBLE via the electronic course catalogue Friedolin.


Step 1 - Online Registration

The online registration for the current semester and the written placement test is always mandatory.
You CANNOT participate in our German courses without registering online.


Please note:

Take your time for your online registration and read the application form carefully. It takes approx. 10-15 minutes. The whole application form has TWO pages.
Check all your data at the end. The online registration is completed successfully when you see this picture Vielen Dank and receive a confirmation of your registration via email.




For language courses in the lecture period
(summer semester 2018)

Registration will be activated on 26th of February 2018.

For intensive courses in the non-teaching period

Step 2 - Written Placement Test

Our placement test has been developed based on scientific researches so that we can identify your language level and course need. There is no grade. It it merely to help up offer you the most appropriate courses. The test will take approximately 120 minutes.

If you want to participate in German courses at the Language centre of the FSU, the written placement test is mandatory. Without the written placement test it is not possible to enrol personally and participate in our German courses (step 3).



For language courses in the lecture period
(April 9th 2018 till July 13th 2018):

  • Tuesday, April 3rd, 6-8 pm, Carl-Zeiss-Straße 3, Hörsaal (lecture hall) 1


If you already missed the first appointment:

  • Tuesday, April 10th, 6-8 pm, Carl-Zeiss-Straße 3, Hörsaal (lecture hall) 1
    (This is the last opportunity to enrol. The lecture period has already started on October 16th. Only after the personal enrolment you can attend in our language courses (step 3). You already have one week of absence time!)


For intensive courses in the non-teaching period
(September 2018)

  • Still to be announced.



We offer intensive courses ONLY in september. Therefore, there are limited places available.


Exceptions:

1. German for absolute beginners: (A0)

  • You do not have to take the written placement test. PLease go directly to the personal enrolment for A1.1-courses. (step 3)

2. Participants with a DSH certificate, Test-DaF certificate, telc certificate or Goethe certificate (not older than six months)

  • You do not have to take the written placement test. Please go directly to the personal enrolment (step 3). The specific level of your language course depends on your grades points of your language certificate. The Language centre reserves the right to decide the assessment in a particular course.
  • DSH-3: without placement test for courses at level C1


Step 3 - Personal Enrolment and Confirmation/Admission to Course(s)

Personal Enrolment: Personal enrolment is always for ALL participants mandatory (A0-C2).

You will receive the results of your written placement test. During the personal enrolment, you will be given information about all German language courses and all general information (course fee, textbooks and more).



For language courses in the lecture period
(April 9th 2018 till July 13th 2018):

  • Friday, April 6th, 2-4 pm, Carl-Zeiss-Straße 3, Hörsaal (lecture hall) 1


If you already missed the first appointment:

  • Friday, April 13th, 2-4 pm, Carl-Zeiss-Straße 3, Hörsaal (lecture hall) 1
    (The lecture period has already started on October 16th. You already have one week of absence time!)


For intensive courses in the non-teaching period
(September 2018)

  • Still to be announced.



We offer intensive courses ONLY in september. Therefore, there are limited places available.


Confirmation/Admission to Course(s): Only after you have enrolled personally in your courses, will you be admitted to your chosen courses. You will then receive a confirmation of your personal enrolment by E-mail. After that you may attend your chosen language courses.

Step 4 - Transfer of Course Fee

Please transfer the course fee and provide proof of payment to your instructor AFTER your first lesson in the German course and up to 2 weeks after the course starting. More information about course fees and payments are given here.
