  • Senate

    The Senate, comprising 25 voting members, is involved as the central governing body in all important decisions of the University of Jena. It gives its consent to the appointment of Vice-Presidents and elects the members of the University Supervisory Board as well as the Equal Opportunities Officer and the Diversity Officer. The Senate adopts university-wide regulations and statutes, including the University's Constitution (Grundordnung) and the Appointment Regulations (Berufungsordnung).

  • University Supervisory Board

    The University Supervisory Board advises and supports Friedrich Schiller University Jena on matters of academic profile development, priorities in research and teaching, and the further development of the study programme offering. It also approves the University's budget plan, among other responsibilities. It has eight voting members as well as further advisory members.

  • University Assembly

    The University Assembly is composed of members of the Senate and the University Supervisory Board. Its responsibilities include, among others, the election and removal of the President and the Chancellor. It also adopts the Structural and Development Plans (Struktur- und Entwicklungspläne, StEP). The University Assembly is chaired by the Chair of the University Supervisory Board.

  • Extended Executive Board

    The Extended Executive Board, acting as a development council, serves as a steering committee advising the Executive Board of the University of Jena on matters including structural and development planning. In addition to the Executive Board, the body involves all faculties and status groups as well as the Equal Opportunities Officer and the Diversity Officer. It is chaired by the President.
