The Fromman Sculpture Garden at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Fürstengraben 18) will open the exhibition »lucide« on 28 May at 6 pm, featuring six sculptural works by artist Cornelia Weihe. The focus is on steel sculptures, whose permeable, transparent structure is already hinted at in the exhibition title. Prof. Dr Verena Krieger from the Professorship of Art History and Robert Sorg from the Jenaer Kunstverein e. V. will give welcoming speeches. Curator Kristin Wenzel will provide an introduction to the exhibition, and the artist Cornelia Weihe will be in attendance.

Open forms and a minimalist design language

Weihe's works are characterized by open forms and a minimalist design language. Light, air and vegetation are deliberately incorporated into the artistic effect. Within the context of the garden, the sculptures develop a special dynamic. Depending on the perspective and time of day, their appearance changes and they enter into a continuous dialogue with their surroundings. The garden functions not merely as an exhibition space, but also as an integral part of the artistic experience. The interplay between nature and sculpture creates a space for nuanced perception and individual observation.

Cornelia Weihe, born in 1959 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz), is one of Germany's most distinguished sculptors in the field of metal art. From 1981 to 1988, she studied metal sculpture and enamelling at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle under Irmtraud Ohme. Her artistic practice combines sculptural form with material-specific techniques. In addition to her freelance work, she served as an artistic assistant in the Sculpture Department at Burg Giebichenstein from 1990 to 2024.

Weihe is co-founder of the »Atelier für Metallkunst« (studio for metal art), which has been exploring metal as a sculptural medium since 1991. Her works have been shown in numerous national and international exhibitions, including in Munich, Meiningen, Celle, Merseburg and Bamberg, as well as at the »Dansk Billedhuggersamfund« exhibition at Gl. Holtegaard (Denmark) in 1993 and at »Prague meets Halle« at the »u prstenu« gallery in Prague (Czech Republic) in 1998. She has also taken part in various sculpture symposia. In 1996, she received the Ernst Rietschel Art Prize for Sculpture for her artistic work. Works by Cornelia Weihe can be found in the Dresden State Art Collections, among others.
