Salon 2035 – Jena in Dialogue with the Future

Three evenings, three fascinating topics, a time horizon of 2035: Jena is looking to the future together. The Pop-up Salons at Wagnergasse 25 invite the academic community and the wider public to engage in genuine conversations about highly relevant topics and scenarios – in an open, informal setting, on equal terms. Short presentations, lively discussion, cold drinks. Come along and join the discussion!

Pop-Up Salon #1: Energy City Jena

Jena is reimagining the legacy of the ‘City of Light’: we no longer view light merely as a means of seeing, but as the key to smart energy systems and circular material cycles. In the first salon of the series, we will explore potential scenarios and look directly into the energy landscape of Jena over the next decade.

  • Which developments from research and industry will shape Jena’s energy systems of the future?
  • Where are new global energy trends emerging that will also transform Jena?
  • How can we imagine Jena as an energy city in 2035?
  • How must we adapt our thinking about energy and cities in the future?

We will discuss scenarios with researchers and experts from the city to explore how Jena might be conceived as an energy city in the future: where the facades of industrial buildings harvest energy, sustainable polymer storage units are installed in every block of flats, and waste heat becomes a shared resource. In doing so, groundbreaking materials research, municipal creativity and economic reality come together.
