University of Jena honours committed students and supporters

For 15 years, the Deutschlandstipendium has been supporting high-achieving and committed students at German institutions of higher education. Friedrich Schiller University Jena has also been participating in the programme since its launch in 2011 and has steadily increased the number of scholarships it awards: The university began with 18 scholarships; currently, 71 students are receiving funding. At the scholarship ceremony on 29 June, the university recognised the achievements of the scholarship holders and, at the same time, thanked the sponsors who make the programme possible.

Freedom to study, get involved and develop personally

»At Friedrich Schiller University Jena, we want students to be able to realise their potential – regardless of their background or personal circumstances. “The Deutschlandstipendium gives committed students the freedom to develop their talents and take responsibility for the future«,” says Prof. Dr Andreas Marx, President of the University of Jena.

Following the award ceremony, scholarship recipients and sponsors took part in a get-together to chat and network. Personal interaction is an important part of the programme: in addition to financial support, it often opens up academic, professional and personal opportunities that extend beyond the funding itself.

Achievement and commitment count

The Deutschlandstipendium supports particularly high-achieving and committed students. In addition to outstanding academic performance, social engagement and the individual’s educational background are also taken into account. Scholarship recipients receive 300 euros per month – half of which is funded by the federal government and half by private sponsors recruited by the university. These include companies, foundations, associations and private individuals from Jena and beyond.
