To mark the start of the new training year, Head of Human Resources Moritz Badel and Training Co-ordinator Nick Wartenberg welcomed fourteen new trainees to the University of Jena yesterday (17 August). Among this year’s new trainees are, once again, two prospective chemical laboratory assistants .

For all new trainees, the first week is dedicated to getting to know the university. During this time, they receive important information about the various facilities and points of contact, as well as their rights and responsibilities during their training. Training Co-ordinator Nick Wartenberg is responsible for the induction and support during this initial phase.

For the two trainee chemical laboratory technicians, practical training in the laboratory then begins. Over the first three months, their trainer, Regina Floderer, will familiarise them step by step with the fundamental working methods, skills and procedures in the laboratory. This will lay the foundations for their further training: the two will then go on to work in the research laboratories of various research groups within the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences.

The dual training programme to become a chemical laboratory technician lasts a total of three and a half years and combines practical training at the university with theoretical training at the vocational college.
