Multimedial Language Learning

"Every new language is like an open window that shows a new view of the world and expands your attitude towards life." --- Frank Harris

You don't have time to participate regularly in a language course this semester? Do you want to deepen, complete or automate the skills you have learned in the lessons?

The Language Centre of our university offers twice weekly (Tuesday and Wednesday) between 6 and 9 pm multimedia language learning at the multimedia centre (Ernst-Abbe-Platz 8, hall 204). This offer is made for students who don't have time to join a regular language course during the semester or for those who want to consolidate what they have learned in lessons. Those who are interested can train their listening comprehension and their spelling via language learning software and with the help of a tutor. All without any costs. In addition, multimedia language learning offers a good possibility for linguistic preparation if you want to do a stay abroad.

Especially for international students, multimedia language learning is a reasonable supplement for German language courses, for learning German in studies or for DSH preparatory classes. Additionally, it accounts for a quick linguistic acclimatization in Germany, your new country of study.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Individual time management
  • Individual tutorial assistance - our tutors will give you methodical advices of the software and will attend you linguistically and technically
  • Individual exercise (phonetics, listening comprehension, speaking, vocabularies, grammar)
  • Certification of study time is possible (if you keep the minutes)
  • Headset can be borrowed (but it is better if you bring your own)
  • Advancement of your language skills also in semester break

In the semester break, multimedia learning will take place only once a week (on Tuesdays). In August, there is no tutorial assistance, but the computer hall is accessible.

For multimedia language learning we provide the interactive software programs TELL ME MORE and ROSETTA STONE:

  • English (BE; AE)
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Dutch
  • Italian

Every language can be learned in the following levels:

  • Basics,
  • Beginners,
  • Average,
  • Average +,
  • Advanced,
  • Advances +,
  • Business,
  • Business +,
  • Business + +
  • Chinese (Level 1-3)
  • German as a foreign language (level 1-5)
  • Greek (Level 1-3)
  • Hindi (Level 1)
  • Japanese (Level 1-3)

  • Polish (Level 1-3)
  • Brazilian Portuguese (Level 1-3)
  • Russian (Level 1-3)

Since you cannot appreciate accurately your language knowledge, you have the possibility to do the "Dialang-placement test" for self-classification according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

If there are problems with the access, the Dialang-test can be passed with assistance of our tutors at the multimedia learning centre.
