Programme summary

The programme of the Master of Arts in Education - Culture - Anthropology focuses on education on the one hand and interdisciplinary nature on the other, combining German studies, Cultural studies, Theology, Sociology, Ancient studies and Political Science with the study of education. Its primary aim is the realisation of the fundamental significance that the historical development of educational thinking has on the modern self-image of humankind, the conceptual and normative manners in which it is used as a basis for developmental and learning processes that are initiated and organised on a societal, cultural and even individual level. Class sizes are small (no more than 30 students) and an internship is required.

Special features

The programme is closely connected to the research centre 'Laboratorium Aufklärung' the 'Kolleg Globale Bildung' and the network 'World Education Fellowship Germany/Jena - Research and Development' and others. Aside from courses with small student numbers (no more than 30 students), a course-specific internship is an integral part of the programme curriculum.

Career opportunities

Graduates of this programme are qualified for positions requiring the analysis, critique and creation of concepts of education, culture and anthropology. In addition to research projects on education, graduates may seek positions in the field of cultural and social education. Another option is to earn a Ph.D., such as at the "Laboratory of the Enlightenment" research centre or the “Kolleg Globale Bildung".
