Any war impacts on higher education. University buildings are being bombed, teaching is disrupted, students and lecturers alike face the prospect of being drafted or have to flee from violence and aggression. Wars polarize. The Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena invites to a panel discussion to explore the impact of the current war from various Ukrainian perspectives.

The panel discussion frames a workshop, taking place on 16/17 September, which marks the beginning of the fall semester of the “Invisible University for Ukraine” project.

The Imre Kertész Kolleg, the Central European University (CEU), the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Ukrainian Catholic University receive funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for this project, which offers online courses from the fields of history and sociology to Ukrainian students. These courses are taught by lecturers from all over Europe and the USA. The international networks of the CEU and the Imre Kertész Kolleg thus benefit students whose previous studies are at risk of becoming temporarily impossible due to war and flight.

The DAAD funding programme "Ukraine digital – ensuring academic success in times of crisis" in general aims to support Ukrainian higher education institutions in maintaining, implementing, and offering their virtual courses.
