Center of Medical Optics and Photonics (CeMOP)
Photons for health
The Center of Medical Optics and Photonics is a common profile center of the faculties of Physics and Astronomy, of Chemical and Earth Sciences and of Medicine at Jena University, bringing together scientists of more than 30 working groups.
They develop and apply advanced optical methods both in biomedical research and for clinical applications. Using spectroscopic techniques, e.g. measurement of fluorescence intensity and lifetime or Raman spectroscopy, they generate new concepts and tools for medical diagnosis and therapy monitoring. Moreover, a broad range of therapeutic approaches is dealt with, e.g. photodynamic therapy, laser dissection, theranostics, ranging from molecular, single-cell based approaches to macroscopic surgical strategies.
