Septomics: Centre for Innovation Competence
The Centre for Innovation Competence (ZIK) Septomics is a cross-faculty research centre of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the Jena University Hospital and the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute that was established in 2009 within the scope of the funding programme "Centres for Innovation Competence” by the German Ministry for Education and Science (BMBF). The ZIK Septomics combines interdisciplinary research in infection biology with clinical and translational sepsis infection research. The scientific core of the ZIK Septomics is composed of four research groups that study microbial pathogenesis and the host response during sepsis and infection, as well as how these themes fit into a clinical context. Using this approach, the ZIK Septomics aims to overcome persistent stagnation in the field of sepsis diagnosis and therapy based on improved molecular understanding.
