DFG-Research Training Group 2792:
Autonomy of Heteronomous Texts in Antiquity and the Middle Ages

The interdisciplinary research training group investigates texts from Antiquity and the Middle Ages which conciously depend on other texts and are in this sense ‚heteronomous‘. To these phenomena belong commentaries, paraphrases and synopses as well as handbooks, lexica, chronicles, summaries, anthologies, and retold novels. Such texts have made a decisive contribution to the development of culture and science in Antiquity and the Middle Ages. They will be studied interdisciplinary with regard to how they process by selecting and actualizing their pre-texts on various levels– scientific, cultural, formal, aesthetic – to constitute a unique form of textual „autonomy“.
