                          - Funded! An introduction to story telling for
                              researchers

Many scientific innovations fail not because the
science isn't right but because they don't get the
necessary attention, and thus funding. Why is it so
hard to pitch science? And what does it take to
create an irresistible fundraising story? The Jena
Alliance Life in Focus kindly invites you to the
                            online lecture "Funded!
An introduction to story telling for researchers"
by Dr. Guiseppe Marzio on November 30, 11 to 11:30
                            am.
                          - Startup Safari

On 20 November, the Jena "Startup Safari" took
place. At this event, Jena startups present
themselves and their ideas. The video recording of
the "Safari" can also be viewed after the event, on
                            the YouTube
channel of the organising institution JenaDigital.
It provides an interesting insight into the Jena
start-up culture. The language of the presentations
                            is German.
                          - Online dissertation and habilitation award
                              ceremony

The dissertation and habilitation awards of the
Friedrich Schiller University of Jena are usually
awarded during the festive ceremony on Schiller Day.
Unfortunately, this year's ceremony could not take
place. Therefore, the doctoral awards were given in
an online format on 30 October (see screenshot
above). You can watch the video recording of the
                            ceremony here

                          - Would you like to organise a scientific event
together with a postdoc on a jointly
researched topic? If so, you can apply to the
Graduate Academy until 4 December for funding for
material and equipment costs (up to 1,500 EUR). You

                        Latest
News from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena

                          - Jena is one of 10 German municipalities to become
a 5G model region. The development of 5G
will already be starting this year. From 2021
onwards, various 5G applications will be tested
under real conditions in the Jena area. A total of
3.8 million euros are available from the federal
government. Further information can be found here.

                          - As of 21 November, mouth-nose-covers have
been compulsory in the city centre of Jena,
even outdoors. The obligation is timed from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the inner city centre (see map
                            here).
Further information can be found here.

                          - In October 2020, the "Intershop" letters
were removed from the former Intershop Tower. The
                            letters „E“,
                            „N“
                            and „T“
will now be auctioned on Ebay until 30 November.
They are almost 3 metres tall and weigh over 100
kilograms each. However, it is now unclear what the
tower will be called in the future: „Keksrolle“
                            (Biscuit Roll), Uniturm, ...?
