                        Mating
strategies of flies: Looking back at the Graduate
                          Academy’s Summer Party
On 16 May, more than 150
guests joined this year’s summer party at the Graduate
Academy. This year’s science slam was won by Muhammed
Ali. The doctoral candidate who works in Max Planck
Institute for Chemical Ecology explained which
strategies flies use to find their mating partners.
The photo competition was won by Julia Kirtzel. Her
beautifully ornated doctoral hat showed scenes of her
everyday life as a doctoral researcher. Additionally,
her colleagues wrote a short poem to describe the hat
                          in detail.

                        Identify
your competencies and present them to employers
                        What skills do you gain
during your doctorate? How can you develop them
strategically? In order to answer these questions, the
French university association and other partners have
launched the DocPro portal. DocPro presents 24 core
academic competencies and also describes how these can
be further developed in three phases. The portal is
available in English and French. The aim of the portal
is to give doctoral researchers a higher awareness of
their competencies and to enable them to address
companies in a more targeted way.
                        You can find the DocPro
                          portal here.
