About

Scientific Background

  • Prof. Dr Steinbeck, born in 1966, studied chemistry and received his doctorate at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn.
  • From there he went to Tufts University in Boston for postdoctoral studies to investigate biomacromolecules with NMR methods (1996/1997).
  • He moved to the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Jena in 1997 and habilitated in organic chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena in 2003.
  • After leading a research group at the Cologne University Bioinformatics Center, he went to the European Bioinformatics Institute in Cambridge, UK, as Head of the Section of Chemical Informatics and Metabolism.
  • Since 2017, he has been Professor of Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Informatics and Chemometrics at Friedrich Schiller University.

Research

Prof. Steinbeck's research group develops methods for the automatic structure elucidation of natural compounds as well as algorithms in chemical informatics and an infrastructure for research data management in chemistry.
