The Graduate Academy organises various events for doctoral candidates and postdocs throughout the year. The welcome event for new doctoral candidates and the doctoral graduation ceremony mark the beginning and end of the doctorate. The PhD Day offers a wide range of information for doctoral candidates and those interested in a doctorate. The Career Days focus on giving information about future perspectives to advanced doctoral researchers and postdocs. The graduation ceremony and presentation of doctoral diplomas takes place once a year, on Schillertag. Schillertag is the academic holiday of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and its community of friends and supporters. It is in honor of the inaugural lecture of the namesake of the university and is followed by the university's Sommerfest.

Schillertag is where doctoral and habilitation prizes are awarded and where all doctoral candidates are honoured who completed their doctoral degrees at Friedrich Schiller University Jena in the previous year. All finished doctorates will also be included in a yearbook. Doctorates who participate in this event receive this yearbook along with their doctoral diploma. Family members and friends, as well as the doctoral commissions, are also welcome to attend.
