Representations or visualisations of numbers or data are everywhere. Even though they are supposed to help us to understand complex issues they are often unhelpful or even misleading.

In the lecture "From Visualisation to Insight", Prof. Dr. Kai Lawonn will present historical visualisations and point out how representations can be critically questioned. He will also demonstrate some negative examples and explain why they are confusing. At the end, he will give a short excursus on current research questions in data visualisation.

Prof. Dr. Kai Lawonn is head of Visualization and Explorative Data Analysis Group at Friedrich Schiller-University Jena.
