Ceremonial Matriculation
The University of Jena welcomes its new students in the winter semester 2026/27 with a ceremony in the Volkshaus Jena.

We celebrate your entry into our University, into the »Alma Mater Jenensis«, together with you—at the Ceremonial Matriculation on Thursday, 22 October 2026 at 2 pm. With this ceremony at the Volkshaus Jena, the Executive Board welcomes all newly enrolled students to the University of Jena for the winter semester.
TICKETS FOR THE CEREMONIAL MATRICULATION
The Volkshaus has a capacity of 800 guests. Admission is free, but a ticket is required for entry. The number of tickets is limited, and we cannot guarantee a seat for every newly enrolled student. Upon presentation of their Thoska card, newly enrolled students can obtain up to three tickets: one for themselves and two for guests. As long as supplies last! Please take only as many tickets as you actually need.
WHERE AND WHEN CAN I GET TICKETS?
In the campus foyer during the student orientation days:
October 6, 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: at the Central Student Advisory Service information desk October 15, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: at the Central Student Advisory Service booth during the "Markt der Möglichkeiten" (Student Opportunities Fair)
Returning tickets
If you do not need your tickets, please return them to our University Shop by 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at the latest. This allows fellow students who haven't yet been able to get a ticket to attend the event. Thank you.
Tree dedication following the ceremonial matriculation
Following the program at the Volkshaus, we invite everyone interested to the tree dedication ceremony in the garden of Villa Lambrecht (Schillergäßchen 2–3). A red horse-chestnut will be dedicated to the Class of 2026/27, symbolizing their roots in the university and the city of Jena.
The tree dedication tradition dates back to 1993; you can view all previous locations and tree species here.
