In the field of teaching and research, one of the core activities of the Friedrich Schiller University is the promotion of talented students who are enthusiastic about science. Teaching staff at all faculties make an effort to identify students excelling in their studies, provide them with individual support, and enable them to engage in research activities. What this support for talented students looks like varies greatly and is usually not provided within a structured framework. In order to promote motivated and capable students at an early stage and support them even better, the "Honours Programme for Future researchers" offers a structure and a variety of opportunities, regardless of the individual field of study.
In the multidisciplinary exchange, students look beyond the scope of their current discipline, they gain an insight into different research cultures – and at the same time they can sharpen their perspective on their own field of research and profile.

The three components of the programme – Honours mentoring, Honours workshops, and Honours fund – as well as other events in the programme are designed to help students make an informed decision about their career path and accompany them on their first steps.

Coordinated by the Graduate Academy, this cutting-edge programme is one of the essential parts of the “LIGHT, LIFE, LIBERTY – Connecting Visions” strategy of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. It is funded by the university allowance provided by the Excellence Strategy of the German State Government and the Länder.

For quality assurance and to continuously develop the programme further, we conduct an annual evaluation of the Honours Programme. Both students and supervisors in the programme are surveyed using a structured questionnaire.

The next evaluation will take place in summer 2022. The results of the past evaluations can be found here:
