Stay abroad – first impression

The best education for a clever person is found in travel. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

Living in an increasingly globalized world, stays abroad have become an indispensable experience. Friedrich Schiller University Jena offers students more than 500 exchange opportunities at approx. 350 universities in 50 countries. There is much to discover; many unforgettable moments await you:

  • gain a new perspective on your field of study and use the opportunity to enhance and complement your profile
  • gather experience in working in an international team before graduating
  • train your intercultural skills
  • improve your language skills
  • benefit from the steep learning curves you will be going through
  • make friends with people from all over the world

The sky is the limit with the University of Jena’s Erasmus+ programme, bilateral exchange programmes or special scholarship programmes.

Quotes from our students who have already been abroad

I have always been drawn to the wide world so well worth discovering. That's why the Erasmus programme seemed to be the perfect opportunity to broaden my experience and knowledge.’ (Jolanda Krok, stay abroad in Donostia San Sebastian, Spain)

Personally, I have benefited very much from my stay abroad. Not only because my language skills had improved noticeably after those three months, but also because my flatmates and friends made me enjoy every single second.’ (Alessa Bär, stay abroad in Canterbury, UK)

Living in a foreign country, I learned more about myself and the culture. I can say that I returned a “different” person because of what I had experienced. The stay abroad taught me to look at things from a different perspective and to question situations that I had taken for granted until then.’ (Kathleen Böttcher, stay abroad in Paris, France)
