What do I need to remember?

If you are already enrolled at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and plan to continue your studies in the upcoming semester, please remember to re-register on time. For the winter semester, this is possible from mid-June. For the summer semester, registrations are open from mid-December. To complete the re-registration process, simply transfer the current semester fee (and any other fees you may be expected to pay) to the University’s bank account. This must be done by 15 August for the winter semester and by 15 February for the summer semester. All key dates are available here.

Provided that you have transferred the complete amount and used the correct reference number, your student account will automatically be re-activated within a few days. Once you have successfully re-registered, you can revalidate your Thoska card (student ID card), register for courses in Friedolin, and print out your  certificate of student status or any other documents you need. To view your personal re-registration data, please log in and select ‘Rückmeldeinformation’ from the menu.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

If you have missed the re-registration deadline, do not worry. We will not de-register you immediately. However, you will have to pay a late re-registration charge of €25 to re-register by the extended deadlines (15 March or 15 September).

If you notice that you are unable to re-register despite having transferred your fees, please visit us at the Service Desk. This can sometimes happen when incoming payments are not allocated correctly. In this case, please submit proof of payment (e.g. bank statement, payment receipt from your bank).

International Students

·         International guest students (exchange programmes) may re-register for the upcoming semester if they have been confirmed for admission or have been granted permission to extend their studies abroad by their home university and the University of Jena. If you wish to extend your stay abroad, please request and complete the corresponding form from the International Office team:

·         DSH course participants may re-register for a maximum period of two semesters. This requires you to achieve good results in the language test at the end of the first semester and pass the entrance test for the highest proficiency level in the following semester. Please make sure you pay the semester fee for the subsequent semester by the stipulated deadlines. If you cannot re-register because you did not meet the required language level, you will receive a refund. Please note that once you have passed the DSH-2 exam, you will not be able to re-register for this course. The payment deadlines for the course fees will be announced in good time in class.

·         Prospective students completing a foundational course at the International Study Centre Thuringia (Internationales Studienzentrum Thüringen) can re-register if they can demonstrate that they successfully completed their first semester by submitting adequate proof to the International Office.

As far as the semester fee is concerned, the regular rules and deadlines apply.

Students with disabilities are eligible for free travel. To have your transport fees waived (trains and local public transport), please submit a copy of the supplementary sheet that comes with your disabled person’s pass. The sheet must include a valid disability code. To avoid any problems or delays, please make sure you pay the full amount first. You can request a reimbursement of your transport fees at the beginning of the semester by contacting the Student Service Centre.
