As part of the 4th Symposium of the LIFE profile, the Siegfried Czapski Publication Award for outstanding interdisciplinary publications by doctoral candidates within the Jena Alliance was presented on November 26. The prize, funded by the state of Thuringia, is endowed with 2,000 euros and went to Matteo Calvarese from Leibniz IPHT this year. The doctoral candidate in Prof. Dr. Jürgen Popp's research group was honored for his publication in the journal Science Advances. The paper presents a novel endoscope that can precisely detect and remove tumor tissue in real time during surgery. The combination of state-of-the-art laser and imaging techniques with artificial intelligence opens up new possibilities for reducing the burden on patients.
