University of Jena joins renowned network of excellence

»ELSA—European Lighthouse on Secure and Safe AI« is a European network of excellence whose twenty-six members are engaged in the subject areas of secure and safe artificial intelligence (AI), technical robustness and security, privacy protection techniques and infrastructure, and human agency and control.

This year, the network has expanded and welcomed fifteen new members. By joining, ELSA is expanding its expertise in current AI research topics and promoting the exchange of knowledge. The founding members of the ELSA network are based in eight European countries: Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The new members are universities, research institutions and ELLIS units. All aim to realise excellent and sustainable research in the disciplines of security, artificial intelligence and machine learning and are a valuable asset to the network.

The addition of these new members will enable ELSA to extend its reach across Europe and strengthen and intensify research links. ELSA builds on and extends the internationally recognized pan-European AI network of excellence ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems). ELLIS consists of units that are, for example, groups of institutes and universities or individual legal entities|legal persons. The acceding members represent eleven ELLIS units. By joining ELSA—European Lighthouse on Secure and Safe AI—the new members commit to the European vision of actively shaping the future of AI research and prioritising trustworthiness and safety.
