Our aim is to help you achieve your international ambitions by improving your skills and knowledge in English.

We have general English courses, skill-specific courses that cover individual skills, and subject-specific courses that cover particular subjects, such as Medicine, Business, Law etc. We also offer preparation for international certificates, such as TOEFL or Cambridge exams, as well testing students for exchange programmes and internships abroad.

Some of our courses are also offered online or as blended learning.

Courses

  • Everyday English Courses

    The Language Centre offers a range of general English courses that will help you to gain confidence and practise the English you had in school.

  • Business English

    Our courses for Business English are primarily for students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. Depending on capacity, the courses are also open to students of other faculties, Doctoral/ PhD students of the University Jena, students and Doctoral/ PhD students of other German institutes of higher education, employees of the FSU, as well as guests de.

    The courses range from level B1 to C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Thus, advanced participants who want to improve their English skills with the focus on Business English, as well as experts who want to gain additional skills in Business English can find suitable courses.

    If you take a course as part of the Basismodul Fremdsprachen für Studierende der Wirtschaftswissenschaften (BW 36.3), it will run over two semesters. You will obtain for each cours 3 ECTS points if you pass the course. Students of other faculties, international students, or students who already took the Basismodul can participate for one extra semester and gain 3 ECTS points after passing this course.

  • Subject-specific Courses

    he Language Centre offers English courses which focus on particular subjects. They are useful for students who are B2 level and above (according to the CEFR), especially if you plan to take advanced courses in your study programmes as these often require a wider range of reading skills and advanced vocabulary to facilitate engagement with international publications and issues.
