More equal opportunities for researchers

Promoting equal opportunities for female and male scientists is a concern of  Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)External link. In order to implement this goal at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the network "Wissenschaftler:innen und Karriere Jena" (Scientists and Careers Jena) has been established. Its task is to bundle the equal opportunity funds provided for the coordinated research programs and to use them for targeted and tailored measures.

All network members benefit from the central pooling of funds, because the targeted use of funds allows larger, joint projects to be realized. Smaller member institutions in particular can thus benefit from and participate in the implementation of larger measures.

On the basis of an annual needs analysis, the WKJ network realizes, among other things, the mediation, organization and implementation of the following measures:

  • target-group-specific mentoring programs, continuing education and coaching to promote the career development of young female scientists
  • traditional support measures and workshops and measures to promote family-friendly workplaces in science
  • interdisciplinary exchange of experience as well as a platform for idea generation and networking

Coordination office of the WKJ network

A coordination office, linked to the Equal Opportunity Office of the Friedrich Schiller University, mediates content-related needs for the network members in coordination with the Equal Opportunity Office of the University. In addition, it evaluates annually whether the goals of the individual and network measures have been achieved.

Foundation and members of the WKJ network

The network was founded on 01.11.2020 by three Collaborative Research Centers (SFB/TR 234 CataLight, SFB 1076 AquaDiva, SFB 1127 ChemBioSys) and the Clinician Scientist Program CSP OrganAge at the University Hospital Jena and the Medical Faculty. In January 2021, the Collaborative Research Center SFB/TR 124 FungiNet joined the network. It is planned to include other DFG-coordinated programs in the network in the future.

At the WKJ network meeting on 06/11/21, unanimous approval was given to add a new member effective July 01, 2021: FOR 3004 SYNABS.

In October 2021, the Research Training Group (GRK) Model Romanticism and the Collaborative Research Center/ Transregio SFB TRR 294 "Strukturwandel des Eigentums" joined the network.
