University Supervisory Board
§ 34 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (Thüringer Hochschulgesetz, ThürHG) – § 15 of the University's Constitution (Grundordnung)

Responsibilities of the University Supervisory Board
In accordance with § 34 (1) ThürHGExternal link the University Supervisory Board issues recommendations on the University's academic profile and on priorities in research and teaching, as well as on the further development of the study programme offering. In addition, its responsibilities include, among others:
- Participation in the search committee and in the University Assembly in the election and removal of the President and the Chancellor
- Issuing opinions on the University's Constitution (Grundordnung) and any amendments thereto
- Issuing opinions prior to the conclusion of target and performance agreements with the Ministry
- Issuing opinions on the principles governing the allocation of equipment and internal funds
- Approval of the budget plan and any significant changes affecting state assets
- Approval of the budget plan and any significant changes affecting the University's corporate assets
- Adoption and approval of the annual financial statements
- Receipt of the Executive Board's annual report and discharge of the Executive Board
Members of the University Supervisory Board
In accordance with § 34 (3) ThürHGExternal link, the University Supervisory Board has eight voting members, of whom at least three must be women. Members are:
- Five individuals with expertise in higher education from the fields of academia, arts, culture, business, politics, or society, who may not be members of the University or of the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture
- Two members of the University from different status groups
- One representative of the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture
In addition, the following members participate in an advisory capacity in accordance with § 34 (7) ThürHGExternal link and §§ 20 (4) und 30a (3)pdf, 344 kb · de of the University's Constitution (Grundordnung):
- The members of the Executive Board
- The Chair of the Staff Council
- A representative of the central body of the Student Representative Council
- The Medical Director of the Jena University Hospital
- The Equal Opportunities Officer
- The Diversity Officer
