Media and information services specialists specialising in libraries are experts in the professional handling of information and media. They are involved in setting up, cataloguing and maintaining library collections and ensure that books, digital media and specialist literature are available at all times. They also take on administrative and organisational tasks, such as cataloguing or managing lending systems.
Another central part of their job is advisory services(s)|consultations: specialist staff support users in researching catalogues and databases, help them to obtain specific information and explain how to access digital tenders. In this way, they help to ensure that knowledge is available quickly and in a targeted manner.
The profession combines organisational skills with technical know-how and a love of working with people. Media and information services specialists therefore make an important contribution to knowledge transfer and are indispensable both in traditional librarianship and in digital information management.
