Addiction Support at the University of Jena

Our Workplace Addiction Counsellors are specially trained staff members who, alongside their regular duties, volunteer to support addiction prevention and provide help to those affected. They are the first point of contact at our University for anyone who has questions or needs support regarding addictive substances and addiction.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Point of contact for those affected: We listen, offer initial guidance, and point the way to further support - confidentially, respectfully, and without judgment.
  • Support for staff in leadership roles: We provide guidance on supporting staff showing signs of addiction and assist in preparing and conducting welfare meetings.
  • Advisers for colleagues: We support colleagues who need advice on how to respond to addiction issues within their team.
  • Arranging professional support: We arrange referrals to internal and external counselling services, doctors, clinics or hospitals, and self-help groups.
  • Prevention: We are actively involved in the Addiction Prevention and Support Working Group, for example, through information events, campaigns and awareness-raising events.
  • Confidentiality and neutrality: All conversations are strictly confidential and take place in a safe and secure setting.
