Prof. Dr Björn Alpermann holds the Chair of Contemporary Chinese Studies at the University of Würzburg. In his book “Xinjiang: China und die Uiguren” (Xinjiang: China and the Uyghurs), he examines the region’s history and its situation in the 21st century. His analysis explores the conflict in Xinjiang, where legitimate protest and counter-terrorism, ethnic identity and state measures to restrict local linguistic and religious cultures intersect.
The lecture will last approximately 45 to 60 minutes, followed by a discussion and the opportunity for questions.
