Why Open Research Infrastructure?

Open research infrastructures provide open access to digital and analogue resources, such as large-scale scientific equipment, laboratory facilities, networked computer systems, databases, collections and repositories, as well as scientific services and methodological expertise. It strengthens transparency, reproducibility and traceability in scientific results, which creates trust and improves the quality of research. In addition, open standards and shared infrastructures promote collaboration across disciplines and borders. Open infrastructure thus forms the basis for sustainable, inclusive and socially relevant science in which knowledge is further developed as a common good.

Activities in the field of Open Infrastructure at the University of Jena

  • OpenIRIS

OpenIRIS makes scientific infrastructures and services visible and supports their shared use within and outside the University of Jena. The platform makes it easier for researchers to access equipment, laboratories, methods and services, thereby promoting transparency, collaboration and the efficient use of existing resources. As part of the university's open science activities, OpenIRIS contributes to making research infrastructures more accessible and strengthening interdisciplinary collaborations.

  • Core Facilities

Core facilities form an important part of research infrastructure by providing specialised access to methods, instrumentation, data and scientific services. The joint use of existing infrastructure creates synergies, increases visibility and strengthens the exchange between research areas.
