Why Open Research Information?

The term "research information" encompasses a wide range of metadata on research activities, such as information on (scientific) personnel, projects, publications or research infrastructures. This research information plays a decisive role in the evaluation of researchers and institutions, in the distribution of resources in the academic subject area|field and also for the findability of scientific results. However, a large proportion of research information is not freely accessible. However, since research information is indispensable and crucial for strategic decision|ruling|judgement, the distribution of resources, research evaluation and personnel recruitment, the openness of such information is of crucial relevance. Open research information is therefore another important building block of Open Science.

The University of Jena aligns its management of research information with the requirements of the research core data set and implements a research information system (FIS) that complies with this standard. With regard to the transparency of research information, the University follows the Guidelines for Transparency in Science and Research, which were jointly developed by the institutions of higher education in Thuringia. Information on externally funded research projects at the University of Jena can be viewed in the research database of the Thuringian universities and will also be made accessible in the FIS in the future.
