Programme content

A number of co-operations with universities and other Polish facilities|institution|(structural) units form a valuable addition and create the basis for study exchanges and profiling (via internships) in the target country itself. At the same time, a basis is laid for in-depth studies in the humanities and cultural studies. You can also study Slavonic Studies-Eastern Slavonic Studies or Southern Slavonic Studies in Jena - in each case as a core or supplementary subject.

The Bachelor's degree is the first professional qualification. The standard period of study|regular programme length is six semesters in total, during which various forms of courses (e.g. seminars, lectures or tutorials) are offered for the individual modules.

A multi-subject Bachelor's degree consists of a major subject with 120 credit points (abbreviation: LP / 1 LP = 30 hours of attendance, preparation and follow-up work|follow-up activity, coursework and examinations) and a supplementary subject with 60 LP.

With the exception of the core subjects South Slavic Studies and East Slavic Studies, the supplementary subject West Slavic Studies can be combined with all major subjects offered at the University of Jena.

Why study in Jena?

  • Jena Slavic Studies presents itself as a subject of medium size, which represents the entire Slavia in an exemplary manner and differentiates itself in various perspectives according to language, literature or region. The Bachelor's supplementary subject in Western Slavic Studies offers the opportunity to combine philological and practical focuses. There are many points of contact with other subjects.
  • The University of Jena maintains intensive exchange contacts with the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, among others. You have the opportunity to spend one or more semesters abroad. The credits earned there are recognised|to credit within the framework of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
  • Polish Studies in Jena offers a wide range of additional activities such as regular Polish readings and film series, field trips|study trips to Poland, a Polish regulars' table and Polish-related events organised by the interdisciplinary Aleksander Brückner Centre for Polish Studies.
