After three years, in the summer semester 2020, the Executive Board decided on the continuation of the ALe on the basis of the ALe’s previous activities and the content-related work of the its panel of experts. Task of the ALe
It is the task of the Academy for Teaching Development to contribute to the further development of teaching and the promotion of teaching quality. Together with the faculties and the Centre for Teacher Training and Educational Research, the ALe
develops strategies and quality criteria for the design of studies and teaching,
sets innovation impulses for improving didactics and curriculums,
and exchanges information on successful and pioneering teaching approaches.
The ALe supports initiatives for the further development of teaching within competitive application procedures. In addition to the University's Teaching Award, suitable funding lines are to provide impetus for the conception and implementation of new teaching concepts. The panel of experts is responsible for advertising and conferring the Teaching Award and funding related to the development of teaching.
Structure of the ALe

The ALe consists of a panel of experts and the ALe office. It is headed by the Directorate. The members of the Directorate (scientific director and deputies) are nominated by the panel of experts from among its members and are appointed by the Executive Board.
The Academy’s office in the Office of the Vice-President for Learning and Teaching supports the panel of experts in its tasks, while the Service Centre for Higher Education Didactics (LehreLernen) provides advice. In cooperation with the panel of experts, the Service Centre for Higher Education Didactics helps to realize the goals of the Academy for Teaching Development. In order to promote teaching competences, it provides qualification and advisory services for lecturers and students involved in teaching.
