In addition to the European Erasmus+ programme, Friedrich Schiller University Jena offers the Erasmus+ ICM ("International Credit Mobility"/Key Action 171) for exchanges with selected partner universities. Students, PhD students, PostDocs, and Staff of Jena University have the opportunity to take part in exchanges outside of Europe. Currently the ICM programme includes the following countries:

  • Georgia
  • India
  • Israel 
  • Japan
  • Republic of Moldova
  • Ukraine
  • USA

This programme is being coordinated by the International Office in conjunction with the Graduate Academy and other parts of Jena University.

In contrast to our bilateral exchange programmes, the ICM programme not only includes a fee waiver, but also a monthly grant of currently 700 EUR a month as well as a one-off travel allowance.

    • Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune Society (preference: chemistry; photonics)

    Israel

    • Hebrew University (preference: slavic languages; non-organic chemistry)
    • Ben Gurion University of the Negev (preference: geosciences)
    • Haifa University (preference: political sciences)
    • Technion. Israel Institute of Technology (preference: chemical photonics)
    • Tel Aviv University (preference: theology/ethics)

    Japan

    • Fukuoka University (preference: German as a foreign/second language - as an internship at the partner university)

    Kanada

    • UNBC (preference: English studies)
    • University of Montreal (preference: molecular medicine; intercultural business studies)

    Korea

    • Chonnam National University
    • Chung-Ang University

    Republik Moldau

    • Moldova State University (only PhD; preference: Romance languages, Slavic languages, history, political sciences)

    Ukraine

    • Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (only PhD; if there are no travel restrictions)

    USA

    • The University of Rhode Island (preference: political sciences)
  • Extent and possible scholarship amount

    The support includes:

    • a monthly scholarship of 850 EUR a month
    • a one-off travel allowance (according to the EU distance band calculator; if necessary also a green travel top-up for using sustainable means of travelling for travels under 2.999km)
    • a monthly top-up for students with fewer opportunities of 250 EUR (see statutory declaration under "Downloads")

    The study fees at the host university abroad are waived under the Erasmus+ ICM programme.

    If you are expecting much higher costs due to a severe disability, a chronic illness, studying with children or similar, please contact us at least four months before the start of your studies abroad. In this case, we can submit a so-called long application to the DAAD on your behalf: erasmusplus_international@uni-jena.de

  • Conditions and duration of stay abroad
    • Enrolment in a full-time study programme at FSU Jena
    • Language skills in English at C1 level, occasionally B2, and/or knowledge of the local language
    • At least 3rd semester Bachelor at the time of your application

    Please note: Foreign students can not take part in exchange programmes with their home country!

    Duration: on average 3-4 months (12 months max. in one study cycle)

  • Application deadlines

    30.11.2023 (USA/Canada), 15.01.2024 (other countries) for the winter semester 2024/2025 and/or summer semester 2025

    15.07.2024 for the summer semester 2024 (= remaining places if there is an open call)

    Unlike the bilateral exchange programmes, your application for an exchance opportunity includes the application for an Erasmus+ scholarship. Information regarding the necessary application documents be be found on our Worldwide application information page.
