As a postdoc, research is typically your top priority. You may already have a sense of where you want to go professionally, yet active career planning often feels time-consuming and is easily postponed. But what if investing in your career development is not a trade-off with research? When approached strategically, it can broaden your perspective and open up new opportunities.

Using structured and practical methods, you can refine your personal career compass, reassess your priorities and make conscious career decisions rather than rushing from one project contract to the next. During this event, we will introduce a new workbook with practical tools to help you define your goals, assess your strengths and plan purposeful next steps for your career in academia or beyond.

In the workshop, we will show you how to use the workbook to approach your career planning strategically and efficiently. You will explore selected tools from the workbook, take initial steps toward structuring your career plan and gain fresh perspectives through discussions with fellow postdocs and career advisors. After the event, feel free to continue with other exercises from the workbook to further develop your career plan and make well-informed decisions aligned with your values, strengths, and long-term goals.

The workbook 'Career Development for Postdocs' was developed within the UNIBUND Halle-Jena-LeipzigExterner Link as an open-source tool. You can download it herepdf, 868 kb · en.
