Wir laden Sie herzlich ein zur "Imaginamics Lecture" am Donnerstag, den 5. November 2026 von 18-20 Uhr (c.t.) im Senatssaal des Universitätshauptgebäudes (Fürstengraben 1):

Ted Schatzki: "A Practice-based Critique of Sweeping Social Imaginaries"

Abstract
Taking off from a conception of social life as transpiring in a plenum of practices, and fortified with considerations from Wittgenstein, this talk criticizes the large scale social imaginaries posited by Cornelius Castoriadis and Charles Taylor. The argument against Castoriadis focuses on the nature of meaning and its relation to practices and societies, whereas the argument against Taylor concerns the cognitive infrastructure underlying, and the kinds of commonality displayed by, social phenomena understood as matters of practice. Attention is also paid to the kinds of multiplicities or multitudes bound up with these positions and the appropriateness of theorists’ use of the term “imaginary.”
