HPC-Cluster ARA
The University Computer Centre provides high-performance computing capacity for teaching and research and offers advisory services(s)|consultations on the use of high-performance computing. You can also obtain powerful software development tools or software packages for special calculations from the URZ.
In addition to the classic HPC cluster for computing and analysing large amounts of data (artificial intelligence), we offer several Science Cloud tenders for interactive work and for use in teaching.

"Draco" cluster for teaching and research
Use one or more of our computing nodes for your computationally intensive research projects or for your numerical teaching. On the "Draco" cluster you can process highly parallel "batch jobs" as well as simple interactive computing tasks. The computing tasks are distributed via the SLURM workload manager. A basic knowledge of basic Linux commands is recommended for use. We would be happy to advise you on your project.

"Ara" cluster for computationally intensive research projects
A separate HPC cluster for research and teaching was set up using DFG funding and funds from various research groups|working group|study group|task force from (Bio-) Computer Science, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. This cluster is administratively managed by the URZ and offers the participating research groups|working group|study group|task force for their numerical research projects. This cluster is only available to participating research groups.

Über den Browser kann von jedem Rechner aus auf zentral gespeicherte Daten zugegriffen und die Bearbeitung in der Cloud durchgeführt werden. Für einen Einsatz in der Lehre können Ihre Teilnehmer interaktiv ohne lokale Installation im Browser programmieren. Eine Beantragung für diesen Dienst ist nicht notwendig.

Rancher (Kubernetes-Management)

Graphic: Rancher LabsSie benötigen einen Kubernetes-Cluster für containerisierte wissenschaftliche Anwendung in Forschung und / oder Lehre? Das URZ bietet Ihnen die Möglichkeit mit RancherExternal link eigene Cluster zu erstellen und zu managen. Sie haben Root-Zugriff auf Ihren Cluster und können somit eigenen Anwendungen ausrollen.
Momentan bietet das URZ keine dedizierte Hardware für diesen Dienst an. Daher brauchen Sie für die Nutzung eigene Linux-Knoten in Form einer Virtuellen Maschine oder eines eigenen physischen Servers auf denen sie Docker vorinstalliert haben.

Do you have questions or need advisory services(s)|consultations on various topics related to HPC (High-Performance Computing)? We can help you from the initial facility|institution|(structural) unit of your HPC account to the targeted optimisation of your parallel "batch jobs" or your interactive computing tasks. We are also happy to advise you on computing time applications at external Centres or help with the specification or placement of newly procured HPC technology.
In addition, we offer individual support and training course|training sessions or workshops.
