The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports the German higher education institutions in the European university alliances with the national support programme ‘European University Networks (EUN) - national initiative’.
Within the framework of this programme, the University of Jena receives additional funding through the FECT project (Foster.European.Competences and Talents) to implement measures to sustainably strengthen the European dimension. FECT combines the topics of digitalisation and internationalisation with a focus on quality assurance in European cooperations. It is currently in its second funding period (2024–2027).
You can find more information about the european University alliance EC2U here.
Paper-based and parallel processes are being replaced by an integrated, media-break-free system in document management (DMS). International contract management processes are being analysed, standardised and technically coordinated. The aim is to achieve greater transparency, efficiency and quality, as well as better strategic evaluation options.
The International Office coordinates the content of the work package, while the Digital University department is responsible for technical implementation. Best practices from German universities and the EC2U alliance are incorporated.
Interactive workshops and digital learning opportunities for students and university staff are designed, tested and continuously developed.
Various self-study courses combine intercultural competence with foreign language skills and build on successful approaches from FECT (2020–23). Intercultural training courses, escape rooms and expert roundtables for staff, as well as summer schools for students, expand the range of offerings. The ‘iKompass’ certificate programme offers staff the opportunity to acquire intercultural skills.
The measures particularly support the EC2U work package ‘Good Health and Well Being’ through structured, hybrid continuing education and training programmes and international exchange.
With the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), the University of Jena commits itself to high quality standards and to transparent, automatic and complete recognition of academic achievements abroad. The aim is to improve counselling and procedures relating to studying abroad, to increase the binding nature of recognition and to sustainably increase mobility rates.
At the heart of this project goal is the development of a pilot database in economics as an internal faculty best practice model. The technical implementation is being carried out in cooperation with the Digital University Unit (SDU). This strengthens European cooperation, increases outgoing mobility and raises the profile of studying abroad for Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral students.
The aim is to develop a binding policy for the implementation of short-term mobility and micro-credentials (MCs). Under the leadership of the International Office, the legal, organisational and administrative foundations will be laid in collaboration with faculties, the Vice-Presidency for Studies and Teaching, examination offices and partners.
Plans include guidelines for implementation, clear criteria for awarding MCs and adapted regulations for short-term mobility. The aim is to strengthen virtual and hybrid mobility formats in the long term, optimise recognition procedures and exploit synergies within the EC2U alliance.
