In November 2025, the European University Alliance EC2U – European Campus of City Universities celebrates its anniversary – and with it a piece of lived Europe. Since its foundation, EC2U has connected its partner universities as well as their cities, regions, and people into a vibrant, multicultural network.
Since then, EC2U has continued to grow and evolve. In addition to the founding universities of Jena, Salamanca, Poitiers, Turku, Coimbra, Iași, and Pavia, the Johannes Kepler University Linz joined the alliance, followed this year by the University of Umeå.
Together, the EC2U universities create an innovative space in which mobility becomes a natural part of everyday academic life: students, teachers, researchers, and citizens move between the participating cities, exchange ideas and shape new ways towards a united Europe. EC2U brings people together to address global challenges – openly, creatively, and with strong commitment.
Everyone can get involved in EC2U. Whether students, university staff, city administrations, local businesses, or interested citizens – all contribute to bringing the European campus to life.
On this anniversary, we say: Thank you!
Thank you to all students, staff members, partners, and supporters who have shaped, strengthened, and advanced EC2U from the very beginning.
Congratulations on 5 years EC2U!

On the 17th of December 2025, an EC2U anniversary celebration took place in Jena. Together, we looked back on five years of EC2U. The event was opened by Dr. Claudia Hillinger, and we were especially pleased that Prof. Dr. Andreas Marx enriched the celebration with a welcoming address.
Our aim is to inspire even more people to get involved in Europe and EC2U. To close the year, a mini-makeathon was held: four proposals for EC2U promotional measures—contributed by different work packages and our EC2U Ambassadors—were presented and are set to be jointly implemented in the coming year.
We thank everyone involved for their commitment and look forward to further developing EC2U together. Here’s to many more years of exchange, innovation, and European cooperation!
