Why Public Engagement?

Public engagement describes the practice of exchange between science and society and is an expression of the basic attitude that both sides benefit from this dialogue. The University of Jena sees public engagement as an integral part of a responsible and participatory academic culture.

It creates spaces and formats for mutual exchange - from citizen science initiatives and participatory formats to participatory future workshops. The aim is not only to communicate research findings in an understandable way, but also to integrate social perspectives into scientific processes at an early stage. The aim is to understand science as a joint creative process and to strengthen its social relevance, impact and connectivity.

Activities in the field of Public Engagement at the University of Jena

  • The university, city and region are breaking new ground at the MitmachFORUM Jena

Together with the city's citizens, we are testing concepts for more dialogue and participation between research, politics, administration and society in exciting events. The participatory FORUM invites everyone to contribute their knowledge. After its completion, the University of Jena's new FORUM in the middle of the city will continue this diverse exchange in the long term as an open communication centre.
