National Marine Data Center
Short description
The National Marine Data Center (NMDC) provides centralized access to marine scientific data collected through national marine projects, ocean expeditions, and observation systems. The repository integrates datasets across multiple marine disciplines including oceanography, marine geology, fisheries, and remote sensing.
The center manages both publicly accessible datasets and conditionally accessible datasets. Publicly available data currently amount to approximately 8 TB, while additional restricted datasets exceed 110 TB.

Video tutrorial
The repository provides illustrated instructions explaining how to create an account, search datasets, and request downloads from the platform.
Access notes
Users must register an account before accessing data. Higher levels of access require verification steps such as linking a Chinese phone number or uploading identification documents.
The repository interface is available only in Chinese, which can make navigation more difficult for international users.
Repository overview
The NMDC integrates marine scientific datasets from national marine surveys, ocean expeditions, satellite observations, and monitoring programs. The data cover both historical and contemporary marine observations, with temporal coverage ranging from 1662 to the present.
The repository provides datasets on marine environmental conditions, marine geographic information, and thematic marine data products for research and environmental monitoring.
