Foreign Language Assistant Program of the Pedagogical Exchange Service of the Secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) for the 2026/27 exchange year.

Who is the PAD?
The PAD is the only state-run institution in Germany that, on behalf of the federal states and the Federal Foreign Office, is responsible for international exchange and cooperation in the field of education.

What is the Foreign Language Assistant Program?
An exchange program designed primarily for student teachers, but—depending on the destination country—also for students in all other disciplines and degree programs, as well as graduates, who wish to gain intercultural experience for 6 to 11 months at schools and universities abroad, whether in Europe or worldwide.
In this way, they improve their foreign language skills, gain practical teaching experience, and broaden their intercultural horizons. In their highly respected role as FSA, program participants make an important contribution to Germany’s Foreign Cultural and Educational Policy (AKBP) by promoting the German language and culture abroad.

By the way: The FSA program is celebrating its 120th anniversary, making it the oldest internationally recognized exchange program in the field of school education!

What makes this program unique is that students who participate receive a living allowance from the host country or institution, which generally covers living expenses and ranges from 790 to 3,400 euros per month, depending on the host country.

Applications for an FSA placement in the 2026–27 school year can be submitted until January 15, 2026 (except for the U.S.: The application deadline for the U.S. is November 11, 2025).
